BOSTON – U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley needs to come clean on her sudden wealth and husband’s business dealings and potential conflicts – answering tough questions directly instead of her usual dodging, softball interviews and canned social media posts.

Take a page out of your nemesis, President Donald Trump’s playbook, and stand there and face the media, head on for once.

The shooting death of a young woman at a nearly $1 million Mattapan rental house owned by Conan Harris, Pressley’s husband, has shone a new spotlight on the couple’s growing real estate holdings.

The Boston Police report about the shooting is heavily redacted. BPD needs to be totally transparent in this case. There’s no evidence Pressley or Harris were connected to the shooting, according to police, but were they aware of any problems at the house?

“There is absolutely nothing that indicates any connection to the owners of the property,” Chief of Internal & External Communications Mariellen Burns said.

The shooting came just days after the state awarded a $2 billion Springfield courthouse contract partly to a company owned by Harris and John Barros, interim head of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

This award is suspicious and has conflicts of interest written all over it. Two of the losing bidders are suing to stop the project from going forward. Several Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance officials sit on the MCCA board. It’s all very cozy.

Yet the state and Gov. Maura Healey too easily brushed off questions about the contract.

“This was a competitive procurement process,” Healey said. “It was a competitive bid, and the project that was chosen was the one that cost the taxpayers the least. I stand up for taxpayers.”

Sure you do, governor, as long as they’re politically connected.

This massive contract needs to be further reviewed, doing a complete scrubbing of any contacts between Pressley, Harris, Barros and Healey administrative officials, including the governor herself.

No one is saying there was corruption in how the contract was awarded, but the optics aren’t great.

But it comes down to the Democratic congresswoman and member of the ultra liberal “Squad.”

Pressley must answer questions about how her wealth has soared from virtually nothing to $8 million in just a few years in Congress, according to her financial disclosure statement. Isn’t that a matter of transparency with the struggling constituents she says she represents? Don’t they deserve to know?

She and Harris owned four rental properties in tony Edgartown, Boston, Florida and the one in Mattapan.

“There’s nothing to see here,” Pressley, whose congressional salary is just $174,000, told Fox News when finally cornered about her wealth. “I submit a financial disclosure, just like everybody else.”

That’s not good enough. Stand up to the media in a full-blown press conference, where you can’t run and hide. There’s no evidence that Pressley swayed the state decision to award the courthouse project to Barros and Harris. So why not just answer the questions?
