Hochul campaigns with Goldman, Lander pops into immigration court as the NY 10th District race ramps up

NEW YORK — Incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman enlisted the help of Gov. Kathy Hochul Monday as the volatile New York 10th District race between him and challenger Brad Lander — who has the backing of Mayor Zohran Mamdani — ramps up.
Hochul, who’s in the midst of state budget negotiations, rallied for Goldman’s reelection to a crowd of union members at her first campaign appearance for the congressman, calling him “ferocious and courageous.”
“When Dan Goldman sees the assaults of the Trump administration on our immigrant community, he is the number one defender, standing up, using his power and his voice to stand up for people who are being abused,” Hochul said at the rally, hosted at the Manhattan headquarters of public employee union DC37.
While Hochul is championing Goldman, Mamdani is supporting Lander in the race for the district, which stretches from Lower Manhattan to brownstone Brooklyn.
“This race is between me and Brad Lander,” Goldman said. “I think the governor, having worked with me for four years, recognizes who the better candidate is to deliver for New York.”
Lander, who ran for mayor last year, is running to Goldman’s left and has frequently slammed the sitting member of Congress for his support of Israel. The primary is June 23.
At the rally, Goldman touted support from unions including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the New York City District Council of Carpenters and Teamsters Local 237, as well as his work combating the Trump administration’s deportation agenda through regular oversight of immigration court.
“How one should use a seat in elected office is to make a real difference for the people who are being attacked,” he said.
For his part, Lander boasted about his own labor support on Monday at a press conference after he spent some time as an observer in immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan.
The former comptroller’s trial was supposed to face a court date after his arrest for interfering with immigration agents detaining an undocumented immigrant last year.
The progressive challenger said his arrest shows he’s actively fighting Trump’s mass deportation crackdown.
