Father of NYC congressional candidate Alex Bores derided Israeli deaths, likened Zionists to Nazis

NEW YORK — The father of Manhattan Assemblyman Alex Bores, a leading candidate in the Democratic race to represent the NY-12th congressional district, lauded the deaths of Israelis during the Iran war on social media while equating Zionism with Nazism, archived posts reviewed by the News show.
William Bores, a technical director at ABC and former union leader, wrote: “Nazis and Zionists, both better off dead” about an ambush of Israeli troops in Lebanon in a post on the Threads site available for review on an internet archive.
Bores, who was a leader in the Communication Workers of America, also celebrated the death of an Israeli civilian hit by shrapnel from an Iranian missile attack.
“What a shame, the world lost another supporter of genocide,” he wrote. “FAFO,” he commented on the death of an 11-year-old Israeli girl in another Iranian attack. The acronym stands for “fool around and find out,” a saying seen as linking certain consequences to actions.
William Bores also trashed Democratic congressional leaders Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Chuck Schumer as “bought and paid for by Israel.”
The posts were first reported by Jewish Insider.
William Bores’ social media account is now private but the posts were captured on an internet archive. He has been a public supporter of his son’s campaign and is listed on much of Alex Bores’ campaign literature.
Alex Bores, a state assemblyman representing an Upper East Side district, did not deny his father made the posts but insisted they don’t reflect his own views.
“I love my dad, value what I’ve learned from him, and disagree with many of the things he’s said,” the lawmaker said in a statement Thursday. “His posts don’t reflect who I am or what I believe. It’s a dynamic a lot of families can recognize.”
Bores, 35, is locked in a crowded fight for the NY-12 seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler. The district, covering the Upper West Side and Upper East Side, includes the largest Jewish population of any in the nation.
Other candidates in the June 23 primary include Assemblyman Micah Lasher, a Nadler protege; social media influencer Jack Schlossberg; and George Conway, a prominent critic of President Donald Trump.
Lasher, who is Jewish, and Bores portray themselves as strong supporters of Israel, although they say they disagree with some policies of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Bores, who is not Jewish, recently said he disagrees with cutting off military aid to Israel.
