Editorial: Time to cool the rhetoric, Democrats

Angry Democrats need to tone down the rhetoric.

Using “Nazi,” “fascism,” and “Gestapo” to describe ICE agents has resulted in the murders of innocent people. The left-wing ideology has now become as lethal as white supremacy.

Vulnerable people — sick would be a better word — can’t distinguish between rage and reality. So they lash out, believing they’ll be lionized.

We’re on a perilous road, and politicians have a duty to speak up, but they must do so with a modicum of professionalism.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz equating ICE as a “modern-day Gestapo” is hate speech.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has already been called out for suggesting that this summer ICE agents are akin to neo-Nazi groups.

“I don’t know of any police department that routinely wears masks,” Wu said early in the summer. “We know that there are other groups that routinely wear masks. NSC-131 routinely wears masks.”

When asked specifically whether she was comparing ICE to the neo-Nazi group based in New England, Wu didn’t say no. “What I said is that Boston police, and no other police department that I know of at the local level, routinely wears masks.”

Again, to the unhinged, that’s a license to lash out.

The New York Post reports that violent plots planned or perpetrated by the far left in the US, as a percentage of all terrorist attacks and plots, hit a record high in the first half of 2025, and are on pace to reach a three-decade high, according to a study from the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

CSIS has been listed as a “centrist” site. Now that we have that out of the way, they make an honest point.

“Leaders across the political spectrum must condemn violent extremism of all kinds, denying it legitimacy and reducing its appeal,” CSIS writes in its latest report.

The gruesome video of the assassination of Charlie Kirk is still being disseminated on social media. (Why Elon Musk doesn’t fix this is a legitimate question.)

The Hill reported, on 9/11 of all days, that U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., urged Musk to ban the videos.

“These are not the only graphic videos of horrifying murders circulating — at some point, social media begins to desensitize humanity,” the lawmaker said. “We must still value life. Please take them down.”

The basic point is the Democrats are furious over President Donald Trump winning the election and doing as he promised he would: fix the broken immigration system.

His “Worst First” approach is being met with outrage by those who looked the other way as the Southern Border was a sieve. That’s no longer the case.

ICE agents have spread out from Boston to Los Angeles, looking to deport illegal immigrants with criminal records or charges filed against them.

All of this traces back to the Biden administration’s gross lack of attention paid to the migrant crisis. A crisis that has cost Massachusetts taxpayers billions, but that’s a story we have covered and will continue to address.

Today, the appeal is singular. Find another way to communicate.

ICE agents cover their faces because they are doxxed for doing their jobs. Police officers face similar abuse. If you break the law, expect to face the consequences.

That’s not Nazism.
