Moskowitz beats back primary challenge for Congress, will face former Boca Raton Mayor Singer in November

Democrat U.S Rep. Jared Moskowitz and Republican Scott Singer, the former mayor of Boca Raton, won their parties’ nominations for Florida’s 25th Congressional District — which analysts across both aisles consider a toss-up.

As the winner in the five-way GOP race, Singer will be the Republican Party’s candidate in the November general election against Moskowitz, D-Parkland, who is seeking a third term.

The newly drawn 25th District runs along the coast from Miami Beach to Delray Beach.

Moskowitz easily defeated Democratic Socialist Oliver Larkin in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

“Tonight, Democratic voters sent a clear message,” Moskowitz said in a statement. “I faced a challenge from the DSA. They threw everything at me and I didn’t change who I am or what I believe, and the voters overwhelmingly chose the independent-minded approach I’ve brought to Congress. I led the effort to have Kristi Noem fired, I’ve taken on this administration, and I’ve taken on extremes in the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) and won. Now we’re running in a tough district hand-drawn by Republicans to defeat me, but I plan to win that too.”

Singer touted his deep South Florida roots in a statement to the Sun Sentinel after his victory.

“I’m deeply grateful for the support we have received across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties,” Singer said. “I have been fortunate to call every county in this district home. I was born in Miami Beach, raised in Fort Lauderdale, and had the honor of serving as mayor of Boca Raton, where my wife, Bella, and I are raising our family.”

Singer added: “This was a spirited primary, and I thank every candidate who put forward their vision for our district. Now is the time to unite as Republicans and turn our attention toward defeating the Democrat nominee in November. FL-25 is a critical pickup opportunity, and winning this seat is essential to protecting and strengthening our Republican House majority. I am laser-focused on presenting a commonsense, principled agenda that will strengthen our economy, secure our border, support law enforcement, stand with Israel, and deliver a better future for our South Florida communities and our country.”

Larkin was considered a long shot to win the Democratic primary, but told supporters it would send “shock waves” across America if he did. An activist, marketing strategist and political organizer, Larkin supported tuition-free college and Medicare for All, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and ending U.S. aid to Israel.

Singer had four rivals in the Republican primary: Dan Franzese, a businessman who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2022 and 2024; Raven Harrison, an author and political strategist who ran unsuccessfully for a congressional district in Texas in 2022; Joseph “Joe” Kaufman, a counter-terrorism researcher, writer and lecturer who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2024; and George R. Moraitis, an attorney, Navy veteran and former state representative who served as past chair of the Broward Republican Party.

Singer served as mayor of Boca Raton from 2018 to 2026. After leaving office in March 2026 due to term limits, he launched his campaign for Congress.

Lifelong Republicans John and Diane Smith said they both cast votes for Singer on Tuesday at the Downtown Library in Boca Raton.

The couple, now retired, said they make sure to vote in every election.

Diane Smith said they vote for people based on record and believe Singer would be the candidate most likely to look out for their interests, given his many years as mayor of Boca Raton.

On Nov. 3, Singer and Moskowitz will face off in what will be a closely watched race.

Libertarian candidate Peter Jassenoff also will appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.

Moskowitz has been saving much of his campaign money for what many predict will be a demanding fall campaign.

The district, which leans Republican, was configured in a way that makes it more challenging for Moskowitz to win a third term.

Singer and his fellow Republican rivals have targeted Moskowitz from the political right by associating themselves with President Donald Trump, who has proven to be a powerful force in Republican primaries.

To counter that, Moskowitz has described himself as a middle-of-the-roader with a track record of working with Republicans.

Moskowitz represented the 23rd Congressional District before Republican-led redistricting completely reshaped District 25.

“This is exactly the kind of district I am built to represent,” Moskowitz said. “People here don’t want ideological purity tests. They want someone who will lower costs, fight for the middle class and stand up to antisemitism and hate in both parties. No one has worked across the aisle like I have to deliver real results for South Florida families.”

Before Moskowitz was elected to Congress in 2022, he served as a state representative and a city commissioner in Parkland. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Moskowitz as the state’s emergency management director and later to fill a vacancy on the Broward County Commission.

Moskowitz has made confronting antisemitism and political extremism a central part of his work in Congress.

“My grandmother escaped Berlin through the Kindertransport. I am only here because good people stood up to evil and gave my family the opportunity to build a life in America,” Moskowitz said. “I will always stand up against antisemitism, communism and hate, wherever it comes from.”
