Barron Trump skips Don Jr.'s wedding as Melania Trump keeps her distance, reports say

Barron Trump was noticeably absent from family photos shared online from his brother Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding in the Bahamas over the weekend.

That’s because Barron Trump skipped the wedding of his eldest half-brother to Palm Beach socialite, Bettina Anderson — like his father and mother, Donald and Melania Trump, the Daily Mail reported. While it’s not clear why Barron didn’t fly down to the luxurious private island of Little Pipe Cay to be at the wedding with his siblings, Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany, the 20-year-old’s absence follows a report that his mother would prefer that he keep his distance from Don Jr. and the rest of his siblings.

A “fiercely protective” Melania wants to shield Barron from the spotlight and to protect his privacy, according to a report by OK! For that reason, the first lady apparently wants to limit her son’s interactions with his siblings, especially at events likely to bring public attention — like a family wedding.

All four of Barron’s siblings are known to court attention, but that’s especially true of Don Jr., Ivanka, and Eric and Lara Trump. Kai Trump, Barron’s 19-year-old niece, the eldest of Trump Jr.’s five children, also was at the wedding. She, too, is known for her her attention-seeking ways; she has more than 10 million followers on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube as she builds her brand as an aspiring professional golfer and influencer.

Melania Trump’s reported efforts to maintain a distance between her college-aged son and his Trump family members has fueled rumors of “a complicated family dynamic,” OK! reported. The first lady’s reported caution around her husband’s children also has been cited as the reason that there is no “real bond” between Barron and his siblings, OK! also said.

Melania Trump went so far as to pointedly not invite Don Jr., Ivanka or Eric Trump to Barron’s 20th birthday party in March, entertainment writer and Naughty But Nice Substack author Rob Shuter reported.

“They’re not close — at all,” one source told Shuter. “This wasn’t an oversight. They were left off the list.”

Barron’s birthday celebration on March 20 was “a tightly controlled, private celebration,” Shuter reported.

“Melania is in charge, and she wanted this to be about Barron — not about Donald Trump, and not about his other children,” the source told Shuter. She didn’t want any distractions or “extended family optics,” Shuter reported.

Another issue is that Barron grew up differently than his much older siblings, especially Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric. Of course, there is a big age gap: Don Jr. is 48, Ivanka is 44, and Eric is 42. But age isn’t the only issue. The older three are the product of Trump’s first marriage to Ivana Trump — when the future president was a regular figure in the tabloids as a brash Manhattan real estate mogul. Both Donald and Ivana Trump raised their children to be comfortable in the spotlight.

Melania Trump has “always kept Barron separate” and guarded his privacy, Shuter said. Keeping his siblings away from his birthday “just made it obvious,” the source said. “It’s clear where everyone stands, and who matters in Barron’s world,” the source also said.

Barron’s father said he couldn’t make it to the wedding because of his “love of the United States.” The president cited this as as a key reason he needed to stay in Washington, D.C., rather than attend his eldest son’s wedding, the Daily Beast reported.

Trump said he needed to remain in Washington during this “important period of time,” he said on Truth Social, presumably referring to his claim that he needed to deal with the war in Iran and all the other challenges of running the federal government.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump’s post read, according to the Daily Beast. “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!” he added.

On Monday, Ivanka Trump dumped a slew of photos on Instagram stories from her brother’s destination wedding, though she shared no shots of the bride and groom, according to the Daily Beast. Among other things, one photo showed Ivanka and Kai Trump paddle-boarding and another showed Ivanka cuddling with her husband, Jared Kushner.

Meanwhile, the bride posted an Instagram story showing a piece of white, silky fabric with the words “Mrs. Trump” embroidered into it.

Despite already tying the knot, Don Jr. may still be holding out hope of organizing another wedding celebration, this one at the White House, according to People. At this ceremony, Donald and Melania Trump would be present. This also would be Don Jr.’s third wedding ceremony with Anderson. People also reported that the couple first made their union official in a quiet ceremony held on May 21 in Florida, according to a marriage license obtained by the magazine.

But even if there will be another ceremony at the White House, the People report did not say whether Barron would make it.
