Hochul backs Micah Lasher in NY-12 primary to replace Nadler

NEW YORK — Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday endorsed Assemblyman Micah Lasher in the crowded Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District, soon to be vacated by the retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler.
“He is exactly the kind of thoughtful, effective leader we need fighting for us in Congress,” Hochul said of Lasher. “That’s why I’m so proud to endorse him.”
Hochul heaped praise on Lasher, a former aide to both herself and Nadler, as an able legislator who will push back against President Donald Trump’s right-wing agenda.
“As the Trump administration continues to target New York and our nation’s democracy, Micah Lasher is exactly who we need in Washington fighting back on behalf of working families,” Hochul said in a statement. “Micah has a proven ability to take on tough fights and achieve meaningful change.”
Lasher is locked in what looks like a tough fight with a field that includes fellow Assemblyman Alex Bores, Kennedy scion Jack Schlossberg and anti-Trump pundit George Conway for the deep-blue district covering the Upper West Side and Upper East Side of Manhattan.
The winner of the June 23 primary is virtually assured of victory in the general election in the heavily Democratic district, with only nominal Republican opposition expected.
Lasher has lined up the endorsements of several heavyweights, including Nadler, who sees him as a protege to take his place in Washington, D.C., after more than three decades, and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Bores, whose district includes most of the upper East Side, has the backing of ex-Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who represented a big chunk of the district until it was redrawn in redistricting after the 2020 census.
