BALTIMORE — President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point on Tuesday to deliver remarks at an event hosted by defense technology company Anduril Industries, bringing the president to one of the largest industrial redevelopment projects in the Baltimore region, a White House spokesperson confirmed to The Baltimore Sun.

Trump is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. at 1660 Shipyard Road, according to White House guidance. Anduril CEO Brian Schimpf and other officials are scheduled to speak earlier in the afternoon.

Anduril, founded in 2017, develops autonomous systems, defense technology and other military equipment. The company has described the event as an announcement about the next chapter of its work to rebuild American defense manufacturing. This comes days after U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth created a new “Autonomous Warfare Command” to oversee new military drone technology.

Trump’s appearance comes as Tradepoint Atlantic continues to transform the former Bethlehem Steel property into a sprawling logistics and industrial center. The 3,300-acre site has attracted warehouses, manufacturing and distribution operations and has become an important part of the Port of Baltimore’s freight network.

Tradepoint has direct access to the Port of Baltimore, major highways and deep-water berths. Its privately operated railroad connects with both CSX and Norfolk Southern, giving businesses on the property access to national rail networks.

The site is also undergoing one of the region’s largest port expansions. Tradepoint Atlantic and Terminal Investment Limited, a subsidiary of Mediterranean Shipping Co., are developing the Sparrows Point Container Terminal at Coke Point. The project is expected to add container capacity at the Port of Baltimore and include two berths capable of handling larger cargo vessels.

Federal permitting for the container terminal was approved last year, and construction has begun. The project is expected to open its first berth in 2028, with full operations targeted for 2029.

The former steel property has increasingly become a hub for companies involved in manufacturing, logistics and distribution. Tradepoint is home to large facilities operated by companies including McCormick, Under Armour and Home Depot, while McLaren is developing a vehicle processing center there.

The property also played a role in maintaining Baltimore’s maritime activity after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in March 2024. Because of its location south of the bridge, Tradepoint continued handling cargo while the main shipping channel was closed.

Anduril has previously been reported to be considering a manufacturing operation at Tradepoint. The Wall Street Journal reported in August that Anduril was in discussions with Tradepoint’s operators about a potential facility for unmanned surface vessels. Anduril founder Palmer Luckey subsequently disputed that report, saying the story was false.

Trump’s visit therefore comes at a significant moment for both Anduril and the former steelmaking property, where redevelopment has shifted the site from a massive steel complex toward a broader industrial and maritime economy.

The same day, McLaren Americas is scheduled to open a new vehicle processing center in Edgemere, the first U.S. facility of its kind for the luxury automaker. Gov. Wes Moore is scheduled to attend the grand opening, which is set for Tuesday afternoon.

Tradepoint Atlantic has marketed the property as a logistics hub because it combines port, rail and highway connections. Its redevelopment represents a long-term effort to reuse the former Sparrows Point steelworks, which closed in 2012 after more than a century of steel production.
