Ilhan Omar accuses Trump of weaponizing government against her in raid

Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home Monday.
Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted the search, according to The Associated Press and Fox News. The Department of Justice said in a statement that the raid was “part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” but provided no further details.
In her first comments after the raid, the Minnesota Democrat said, “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”
“I will not be silenced,” she added.
In response to a question about the law enforcement activity at Omar’s home, White House border czar Tom Homan told Fox Business Network that a search warrant was served, but he did not get into specifics.
“I can confirm that a search warrant was executed this morning, signed by a judge,” he said, without naming Omar as the target.
Fox News reported that the raid was connected to an investigation into the lawmaker’s immigration paperwork.
In November 2024, Omar was reelected to a fourth term representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis and some surrounding suburbs.
Omar has frequently clashed with the Trump administration, and President Donald Trump has singled out Omar with repeated verbal and social media attacks.
The Community on American-Islamic Relations condemned the raid on Omar's home in a statement.
“Coming just weeks before a crucial midterm election, we believe this latest action is part of a broader effort to create political fear, distract voters, and intimidate those who speak out against the administration," CAIR-Minnesota Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said in a statement.
Jackie Rogers, a spokesperson for Omar, condemned Monday’s federal search, accusing the Trump administration of using law enforcement to target political opponents.
“This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” Rogers said in a statement.
Rogers pointed to Trump’s years of public attacks against Omar, arguing that his rhetoric had repeatedly put the congresswoman at risk.
“For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,” Rogers said.
“Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid.”
“The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong,” Rogers added. “No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”
Earlier this year, Vice President JD Vance said that officials were investigating Omar for alleged immigration fraud.
Vance spoke to podcast host Benny Johnson back in March about potential investigations into Omar and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, saying investigators believe Omar committed immigration fraud. In a clip from the interview Johnson shared on social media, Vance added that he was discussing routes for the investigation with top White House official Stephen Miller, an immigration hard-liner.
"We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America," Vance said in the interview. "We're trying to look at what the remedies are ... what are the legal remedies now that we know that she's committed immigration fraud?"
