Man Stuns Partner By Revealing His Prejudices
DEAR HARRIETTE: Last week, I learned that the man I have been dating for two years is homophobic. I was shocked to hear that he's completely against the LGBTQ+ community. We are both in our 50s, but I didn't think he was into that kind of hatred, especially since he has always treated me and others around us with kindness and respect.
Recently, we were walking, and when we saw a gay couple holding hands, it triggered a conversation where he made several offensive comments about LGBTQ+ people. When I challenged him, he insisted that his opinions were justified. I have friends and family members in the LGBTQ+ community, so his views are especially upsetting to me. Now I am questioning whether I truly know the man I have been dating and whether our differences in values are too significant to overlook. Should I reconsider this relationship, or is there a way to move forward despite our opposing beliefs? -- Homophobic
