Nicole Kidman decided to let her teenage daughter Sunday pursue a modelling career after her mum left her with a "parting gift".

Sunday, whose dad is Nicole's ex-husband Keith Urban, has already modelled for huge names including Miu Miu, Calvin Klein and Christian Dior.

But in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nicole admitted she had some qualms about letting her daughter, now 18, model - until she got her mother's opinion.

She said: "As a mother, I'm just, like, 'OK.' My mother let me do my passion that I wanted when I was 14. Actually, before my mumma passed, she was there and I said, 'Oh, should I let her? She wants to model.'"

Nicole's mum Janelle Ann Kidman then replied: "Well, you did it."

The actress continued: "I went, 'OK'. That was sort of my mumma's parting gift to Sunny was [that] she encouraged me to let her be able to follow her bliss and follow her passion and what she wanted. That's exactly what she said, 'You, kind of, have to let her because I let you.'"

Nicole's mother passed away in September 2024.

The screen star has been doing the promo rounds for the new season of her TV show Lioness, in which she stars alongside Zoe Saldana.

The pair were talking about the bond they built up during filming, with Zoe saying that she spent Thanksgiving with some of her Lioness castmates, adding that Nicole would have been there too had she not been with her daughters.

Zoe told Extra: "Nicole would if she was there, but as soon as Nicole finishes, she flies home to her family. And it's so beautiful to see, too."

Nicole, who is also mum to 15-year-old Faith with Keith, laughed before replying: "I go home to my family. I've got one child in junior year and one who's a freshman.

"So, I was like, 'Okay, I got to be there taking care,' you know? Multitasking, right?"

Nicole is also mother to 33-year-old adopted daughter Bella with ex-husband Tom Cruise, although the pair are reported to be estranged.
