Jodie Sweetin "connected" with her former Full House co-star John Stamos over their shared sobriety struggles.

The former child actress, 44, appeared alongside John, 62, in the hit sitcom, which ran from 1987 until 1995, and they both went on to endure battles with addiction issues - and Jodie has revealed they renewed their friendship as they bonded over getting clean after he presented her with a prize at the Experience, Strength and Hope Awards back in 2019.

During an appearance on The Dory Jackson Interview, she said: "John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [sobriety] ... [He] presented me with an award several years back for some of the work that I'd done.

"We have been there to celebrate each other's big successes and milestones, and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery."

Jodie gave up booze in 2011 while John cleaned up his act in 2015.

She added of getting sober: "It's been such a journey - the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy and also just kind of growing up and, and perspective, you know, all of those things ...

"You get the opportunity to become a different person, and once you start actually liking that person, it becomes really hard to go back and continue destructive behavior."

John previously credited his work with therapist Phil Stutz - the subject of a 2022 Netflix documentary by his famous client Jonah Hill - with helping him turn his life around.

He told New York Post column PageSix: "I probably wouldn't be here [without him]."

John added he has been going to Phil for "close to 20 years", adding: "He's very pragmatical, this guy. He was big into helping me get sober ...

"When I went to Stutz one of the first times, he said, 'You know if you weren't so f****** stupid you'd realize how good you have it', and I was like, 'You're right'."

John even introduced his late late Full House co-star Bob Saget to his psychiatrist, adding: "[Bob] was a bit of a… he drove me crazy [when we first met] and I said: 'You gotta go into therapy if you want to be friends with me', so he went to Stutz and Stutz helped him too."
