Jodie Foster has joked she'll be the only actress left in Hollywood with the "jowls to play the junkie grandma" due to never having had plastic surgery.

The 63-year-old screen star opened up to The Telegraph about her decision to stay natural and insisted she's happier than ever - with her appearance and her on-screen successes.

She said: "I feel very lucky. I don't know what happened - my 50s were tough, because society gives you these weird thought processes about how you're supposed to compete with people half your age, and compete with an image you had of yourself when you were in your 20s.

"The 50s were hard for me. I felt like it was hormonal, I was just filled with anxiety and not-enough-ness.

"And then something happened when I turned 60. I felt, 'Oh wow, I don't care.' I think my work is better than it's ever been, and I'm happier at work, and it's also to do with recognizing it's other people's time, and being able to step back and figure out how to help people tell stories that hadn't been heard before.

"True Detective for example, and The Mauritanian - those, for me, were really satisfying - more satisfying than anything I've ever done."

Jodie also joked that due to her avoidance of Botox, fillers and any surgical anti-ageing tweaks, she's sure to be offered dream roles when she hits her 70s as well.

She laughed: "[I'll be] the only one left who isn't all pushed and pulled with my face melted off.

"I'll be the only one who will still have the jowls to play the junkie grandma. And I look forward to that!"

Elsewhere in the interview, Jodie opened up about parenting, and said she's always done her utmost not to interfere with her eldest son Charlie's acting career.

She explained: "I've been very careful not to intervene in any way, so I offer no opinions about what he does. And I try to be positive and neutral, because my mother wasn't.

"I really want my kids to know that they did it on their own, without any help, and if they're a success, it's because of them, and that they take accountability for whatever failures they might have, too."

Jodie shares two children with Cydney Bernard, her former partner of 15 years, with the other being 24-year-old Kit - a scientist.

She added: "The younger one is a scientist, and I don't understand anything he does, although he always diligently sends me everything and tries to talk me through it."
