Vivica A. Fox 'was the only choice to play God'

Vivica A. Fox is called "God" in her new movie.
The 61-year-old actress actually plays a mother named Ruby in the new film Is God Is - but her daughters acknowledge Vivica's character as their creator and they even call her God.
Speaking to People about her relationship with writer-director Aleshea Harris, Vivica explained: "She said, 'You're my first and only choice to play God.' And I said, 'Wowsers! OK.'"
Vivica revealed that Aleshea cited her work in 2003's Kill Bill as inspiration for casting her in the role.
The actress said: "She says, 'I'm a huge fan of Kill Bill. And your work in the film and my filmmaking is going to be a reminder of Quentin Tarantino-style films.'"
Vivica said signing on for the movie was an easy decision, and she even drew a comparison to another recent hit film.
The actress recalled: "I said, 'This is a no brainer.' What was great about it was that it's a type of genre that normally African Americans don't get. So if you like Sinners, you're going to love Is God Is."
Vivica has worked in the film industry for more than 30 years, and the actress previously admitted that she feels "proud" of what she's managed to achieve in her career.
She told Fox News: "When I look at my library, I go, 'Wow, you've been doing the damn thing. You go, girl!' It makes me so proud. I have so many wonderful memories. I don't take any of these moments for granted."
Vivica is also proud to see other black actresses and directors succeeding in Hollywood.
The movie star said: "Now we're here 30 years later, and it's all about girl power. You see ShondaLand, you see Regina King directing films and getting nominated for Oscars. You see [me] producing over 25 films for Lifetime.
"It's definitely changed and there's been advancement and it's about time.
"Is there more room to grow? Absolutely. But I am very happy right now where Hollywood is at and the opportunities for not only African American women but women in general. We're producing, directing, starring."
