Cher still 'processing' shock news about having a 15-year-old granddaughter

Cher, who once said she longed to be a grandmother, has reportedly gotten her wish after learning last year that her troubled son, Elijah Blue Allman, secretly became a father to a now-15-year-old girl during his brief romance with a former model in 2010.
“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” the former model, Kayti Edwards, said in an interview with The Sun about telling the 79-year-old superstar that she had a granddaughter named Ever.
“She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk,” Edwards continued, referring to Allman suffering a drug overdose that year. “When she heard the news, she was speechless.”
Several months after Cher called, Edwards told The Sun that the Oscar and Grammy winner invited her and her daughter to spend the night at her Malibu home, where they played in Cher’s pool and the entertainment legend asked the girl about school and boys. Cher also took Ever on a tour of her closet, where she showed her a pair of jeans she wore at a concert.
“It was a cool experience for her,” Edwards said, adding that Cher is “processing the news” while trying to build a relationship with her straight-A-student granddaughter.
“Cher sent her a Christmas card and present,” Edwards added. “It was a Chrome Hearts hoodie. And then for her birthday, she sent her some money and Chrome Hearts sweats. She called her and they spoke on the phone.”
“Cher is really trying,” Edwards continued. “It’s an adjustment and I’m not pushing any relationship.”
Indeed, from Edwards’ interview, it sounds as though she didn’t initiate contact with Cher, as she said that her husband — not Allman — has always been Ever’s “true father.” Edwards also said that Allman had warned her against introducing Ever to his mother, falsely saying that his mother “didn’t want to be a grandma and to keep Ever away.”
“So I was nervous to introduce her, but it’s been nothing but a good experience,” Edwards told The Sun.
Allman is Cher’s second son, from her second marriage, to the late rocker Gregg Allman, of The Allman Brothers Band. Cher has an older son, Chaz, 57, whom she had with her first husband and former music partner, Sonny Bono.
Apparently, Cher always thought that neither of her sons was interested in having children, which led her to say during the 2018 press tour for “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”: “I don’t have any grandchildren. I wish I did, I really do.”
Cher also must have realized that her second son wasn’t in a good place to become a father, given that he has long struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues. She made his struggles publicly known in 2023, when she made her first bid to become the conservator of his estate due to his addiction. He receives $120,000 a year via a trust established by his father, who died in 2017, Page Six reported.
Allman objected to his mother becoming his conservator in 2023, and she ended up dropping her bid. But last week, Cher made her second bid for conservatorship, calling her son “gravely disabled” and saying his condition “has significantly deteriorated” in the past three years, Page Six also reported, citing court documents. He is currently housed in a locked psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire following his arrest in two separate cases on charges of burglary, simple assault and criminal trespass. In her new filing, Cher said that her son’s drug dependency is “at its worst” and he is unable to manage his financial resources, Page Six also said.
Edwards told The Sun that she had long been friends with Allman but they briefly became romantically involved in 2010. After she learned she was pregnant, she said he made it clear that he “never wanted to be a parent.”
“He would pop in every couple of years but would just say hello,” said Edwards, who now runs a horse rescue in the desert town of Joshua Tree, east of Los Angeles.
Allman kept the fact that he had a child secret from both his mother and from his wife at the time, Marieangela King. That is, until his drug overdose in 2021, when he “blurted out” to his wife that he had a child.
Last year, Edwards told The Sun that Allman got into contact with her and said he wanted to make amends. He came to visit her in Joshua Tree because he said he needed to get out of Hollywood.
“As soon as he stepped out of the car, I knew he wasn’t well,” Edwards told The Sun. “A few weeks later, he overdosed and was hospitalized, and this was when Cher got in touch.”
“She wanted to know what had happened and then she asked me if it was true regarding Ever,” Edwards said. “That’s when I had to tell her the situation.”
