NEW YORK — Less than a year after bidding farewell to “Saturday Night Live,” Bowen Yang is heading for the stage next month, with his Broadway debut in ‘Oh, Mary!”

The five-time Emmy nominee, 35, will star as titular former first lady Mary Todd Lincoln in the Tony-winning comedy — penned by Cole Escola, who also originated the role — from Sept. 15 through Dec. 6, according to a release shared Tuesday with the Daily News.

“My friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of ‘Les Misérables’ sung in Dutch,” said Yang. “But being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, ‘Oh, Mary!’ is my favorite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.”

The “Las Culturistas” co-host will receive the baton from “Hacks” star Meg Stalter, who plays Mary until Sept. 12 and Hannah Solow, who will play Mary the following day.

Yang’s run as Mary will end just under a year since news broke last December that he’d end his historic “SNL” run, which began as a writer in 2018. The following year, he became the NBC staple’s first-ever Chinese-American cast member.

Just before Christmas, Yang said he was “grateful for every minute” of his tenure at “SNL,” as well as “every single person who showed up there: friends and co-workers and audiences and hosts.”

Fellow “SNL” alum Maya Rudolph similarly debuted on Broadway earlier this year in the role of Mary, who has also been played by Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin, and John Cameron Mitchell.
