Didi Conn and Olivia Newton-John stayed "very good friends" long after Grease.

The 75-year-old actress played Frenchy in the iconic 1978 film and explained that the bond she had with Newton-John - who played the female lead Sandy Olsson - lasted beyond Rydell High.

Speaking to The Times newspaper, Didi said: "We lived very close to each other in Malibu. So I spent more time with her off-set. Oh my goodness, she had horses that were just up the hill from where I lived.

"And then we did stay very, very good friends."

Newton-John passed away at the age of 73 in 2022 from breast cancer complications and Didi explained that her co-star will always have a place in her "heart".

The Shining Time Station star - who revealed that she had successfully battled uterine cancer herself last year - said: "She was a beautiful person. And she's in my heart forever."

Conn also recalled how John Travolta - who starred in Grease as Danny Zuko - set up a screening of Saturday Night Fever before its release because he wanted to gauge the opinion of the cast.

She said: "I remember him saying, 'I did a movie in Brooklyn last summer. And I don't know. I don't think it's going to do any good.'

"We went, 'John, this is unbelievable.'"

Didi is happy to be forever linked to Grease and explained that she regularly receives letters from fans of the movie - which was the highest-grossing film of 1978 and featured timeless songs such as You're The One That I Want and Summer Nights.

She said: "So many people have written to me about Grease, about doing the show themselves in their high school, and asked me for advice."

Conn insists that she never gets fed up of talking about Grease.

She said: "No, honestly. I'm so grateful. It makes people happy. I mean, how lucky am I?"

Didi explained last month that the surviving cast members are all still close, mirroring the movie's closing song We Go Together.

She told People magazine: "And honestly, at the end when we say we'll always be together, we still are. We're all still friends."
