Sam Neill's manager confirms cause of death after 'outright falsehoods' being reported

Sam Neill's manager has confirmed the actor died of pneumonia following "outright falsehoods" in reports around his death.
The Jurassic Park actor died on Monday (13.07.26) aged 78, and his manager Philip Grenz has now spoken out after a number of "inaccuracies and outright falsehoods" being reported about his passing.
In a statement to USA Today and others, Grenz confirmed he died of pneumonia, and added: "Prior to becoming sick, Sam had valiantly fought and beaten lymphoma through a new treatment called CAR-T therapy."
Grenz also revealed Neill's family will be holding a "private" memorial rather than any kind of public service.
He continued: "As Sam was an intensely private man who loathed a fuss, his family will honour him with a private family memorial at his farm in New Zealand at a still-undetermined later date.
"I'd like to thank those who were truly close to Sam for considering his privacy with the respect he earned and his loved ones need and deserve during this immeasurably difficult time."
Grenz's statement comes after Neill's ex-partner Laura Tingle spoke to ABC Radio Sydney about his death.
She claimed: "[His] poor old body just sort of got a bit exhausted. He's been pretty sick for the last couple of weeks, and everybody who loved him has been willing him on from near and far, but I think it was just a bit too much to recover from one more time.
"He'd had a lot of chemo and a lot of immunotherapy and, thankfully, it finally cleared him of the blood cancer that he had, but that left him pretty compromised in terms of his immune system."
Sam's death was announced by his family in a statement posted on his social media account.
They said: "It is with immense sadness that the whanau [family] of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia.
"Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.
"The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free."
Neill's loved ones voiced their "deepest gratitude" to the medical staff who cared for him, and promised "more details will be shared" at a later date.
The post continued: "They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent's Private Hospital for their incredible care. "More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss."
