Daveigh Chase’s longtime friend, who also previously served as her manager, is warning fans against contributing to a GoFundMe page launched shortly before her death.

“A man claiming to be Daveigh’s boyfriend has launched a GoFundMe page purportedly on behalf of Daveigh and her family,” John Ryan said in a lengthy statement to Deadline. “Neither her family nor her close friends know who this person is.”

Chase died Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 35 years old, her father, John Schwallier, confirmed. He said she suffered from complications of bacterial meningitis and a blood infection in addition to severe malnutrition. He told NBC she was homeless and that she’d been living on the streets, near the hospital where she died. Just prior, a man named Rory Hernandez created a fundraising page to help raise money to cover her medical expenses.

Hernandez claimed they’d been together since 2019. He also said he started the page because of her battle with meningitis and multiple blood infections.

“I can confirm Daveigh has a SAG trust account with more than enough funds to cover all medical and related expenses,” Ryan told TMZ, adding that he has been in touch with Chase’s family.

Her father “is next of kin and never signed any paperwork over to this so called boyfriend,” Ryan said.

“That GoFundMe is not going toward ANY expenses for Daveigh,” he continued. “Myself her father, her uncle and all of us close friends who knew her for decades are encouraging people not to donate to this page.”

Ryan accused Hernandez of bringing Chase “into the hospital in terrible condition and didn’t let any of the family know until she passed so he can control the dialogue.”

He continued: “Daveigh’s actual family is handling all arrangements, we have contacted go fund me to let them know this man started this page on his own under Daveigh’s name when she was already unresponsive and urging people to report the page and not donate.”

Hernandez, meanwhile, said it’s “100 percent” false to suggest his GoFundMe is illegitimate.

Chase was best known for voicing Lilo in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” as well as playing the creepy villain in “The Ring.”
