Marlon Wayans is "not afraid to go there" with his comedy.

The 53-year-old actor has written the latest film in the Scary Movie franchise alongside his siblings, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Craig Wayans, and Marlon has likened his take on contemporary culture to "bare-knuckle boxing".

The Hollywood star - whose new movie touches on several controversies, including #MeToo, the Epstein files, OnlyFans, and ICE raids - told Entertainment Weekly: "We're not punks. We're not afraid -- we Wayans are not afraid to go there. But is it worth the goodness of your project to just be offensive?

"This is bare-knuckle boxing alright, but with kids gloves on. For us, it's not about the blood. We're not trying to get blood, we're just trying to hit you in the face and get you one of those Fred Flintstone notches."

Marlon and Shawn have developed a strategy for deciding whether something makes the final cut.

Marlon said: "When we were doing test screenings, if it's everybody's favourite scene and least favourite scene, that scene I learned has to go, because it's divisive. I don't want any divisive scenes. Everything that was divisive, I took out of the movie."

Marlon previously claimed that now is the perfect time for another Scary Movie.

The 53-year-old actor has enjoyed huge success with the Scary Movie franchise, which launched in 2000, and Marlon thinks now is the ideal time to release Scary Movie 6.

He told Variety: "This is coming at a time where the world needs a laugh. And look, we're not here to save the world. We're here to remind people what it's like to laugh and feel good.

"We're all too in our phones. There's nothing more infectious than sitting and laughing in a theatre with a bunch of people with different age ranges and backgrounds. We want you to go be 15 again. Post-COVID, we need this."

The Wayans brothers have enjoyed huge success in the movie business, and Marlon claims that his mother, Elvira, is responsible for their wit.

He said: "One of the funniest people that ever walked this earth was Elvira Wayans. She was brilliant.

"Her point of view of the poverty we were in, of religion, of my father -- everything was a joke to my mother, and she was fearless."
