Stacked deck: Netflix adds to cast of its Las Vegas casino drama

LAS VEGAS — Netflix is stacking the deck with its upcoming Las Vegas-based casino drama.
A week after Oscar Isaac signed on to lead “The Roman,” from executive producer Martin Scorsese, the rest of the cast is filling out nicely.
Isaac will portray Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, according to Netflix, “president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who has to make some long odds moves to try and secure his position and take more ground.”
The series, based on the official description, “is set in the high-stakes, sharp-elbowed present-day Las Vegas casino business, which is a modernized but still dangerous version of the legendary city.”
Betty Gilpin, who already starred in a Netflix series set in Las Vegas with “Glow,” will portray Bobby’s wife, a well-connected attorney.
Alec Baldwin will co-star as his father figure, while David Costabile will play Bobby’s friend who runs a rival casino.
Costabile may be best known for his role as Mike “Wags” Wagner in Showtime’s “Billions,” from “The Roman” co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The duo’s writing credits also include “Ocean’s Thirteen” and the poker movies “Rounders” and “Runner Runner.”
Scorsese obviously knows his way around Las Vegas gambling establishments, having spent five months in and around the city directing “Casino.”
JC Chandor, who directed Isaac in “A Most Violent Year” and the Netflix action movie “Triple Frontier,” will direct.
