Warner Bros Discovery think the Harry Potter revival series will be the "streaming event of the decade".

The studio is over a year away from releasing the first season of the new HBO adaptation of JK Rowling's iconic wizarding novels, but WBD streaming boss JB Perrette - president of global streaming and games - already has high hopes for the highly anticipated reboot.

Speaking to media in London at an event for HBO Max's European announcement, he said: "The scope of the production, the detail, meticulousness of what they're going through and what they've built takes theatrical to just a whole different level.

"And so when you think of the love of that franchise and what you can do in a series -- can go deeper, an tell more of the story, can tell more of the pieces that you didn't get to capture in a two hour movie - Casey [Bloys, HBO Max boss] doesn't like it when I say this, but I'm gonna say it anyway.

"I really think this is the streaming event of the decade."

Perrette was discussing the season as WBD announced the launch date of HBO Max in Europe, which is arriving on March 26.

He added: "We as a team have been waiting for so long to be able to deliver this experience to consumers in a market as big and important as the UK, for example, and then you book end -- as we get out of '26 and going to '27 -- with what will be certainly the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max, and arguably, I think, possibly in streaming period, there's no other series that can be anywhere close to that."

The new Potter series will star Dominic McLaughlin, Alistair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger respectively.

Danie Radcliffe - who originated the role of Potter in the original film franchise - previously revealed he had written to his young successor to pass the torch.

The Woman in Black star noted he didn't want "to be a spectre in the light of these children", referring to Dominic, Alastair and Arabella, but was keen to wish his successor well.

He added on Good Morning America: "I just wanted to write to him to say, 'I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did -- I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.' And I do."
