Ariana Grande's "life" has been "made" after Barbra Streisand shared a heartfelt appreciation post about the Wicked: For Good star.

The 32-year-old singer and actress was left in shock after seeing icon Barbra, 83, had praised her acting and singing abilities as well as gushed over Ariana for being "sweet, kind and thoughtful".

Barbra wrote on Instagram: "Ariana is a young woman with an amazing talent. She has a beautiful voice like no one else, and so much more.

She can act, she can dance, she can be funny! She's also sweet, kind and thoughtful. I'm very proud of you Ariana and thanks for singing with me on my album...

P.S. you were wonderful on Saturday Night Live and looked so pretty @arianagrande! (sic)"

A shocked Ariana replied: "WHAT"

After gathering her thoughts, she admitted Barbra's message meant "so much" to her.

She wrote: "Barbra !!!!!!!! what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my goodness, thank you so much for this kindest surprise today! you made my day, my year, my life!

this means so much, coming from you. (sic)"

The Santa Tell Me hitmaker also admitted she misses Barbra and hopes to hug her "soon".

She added: "i just love you so. i miss you and i hope i get to hug you soon... all my love and appreciation. thank you. (sic)"

Barbra and Ariana are known to be good friends.

They previously collaborated on song One Heart, One Voice, alongside Mariah Carey, on Streisand's The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two duets album.

Ariana previously admitted one of her first memories was singing along to Barbra's tunes in her mother's car.

She told W Magazine: "I've always had a fascination with sounds and tones and different accents - my first memory is singing with my mom in the car to Barbra Streisand or *NSYNC or Over the Rainbow.

"I don't remember a time when singing wasn't a part of my life. Strangely, I remember watching The Wizard of Oz in the gingham dress paired with a Scream mask."
