'THE ODYSSEY'

Rated R for violence and some language.

What it’s about: An adaptation of Homer’s epic poem that follows Odysseus’ 10-year journey back home after a decade in the Trojan War.

The kid attractor factor: Teens and older kids might be drawn to the spectacle and story of this epic fantasy adventure.

Good lessons/bad lessons: The gods will demand sacrifices of you. Always honor your dead.

Violence: Battles and dangerous scenarios persist. Some gruesome imagery and plenty of fighting. Not too much blood or gore.

Language: Three instances of anachronistic swearing.

Sex: None, but some brief nudity.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: OK for older kids and teens if they can handle the themes and story.

Parents’ advisory: OK for older kids and teens though it deals with some sad and heavy themes.
