Russell Brand was reportedly "petrified" during his first night behind bars.

The 51-year-old comedian/actor was denied bail ahead of his sentencing after he was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a trial at London's Southwark Crown Court on Thursday (05.11.26) and a new report has now suggested being remanded into custody was a "massive shock to the system" for Brand.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "The first night for anyone in a jail is really daunting - and Brand was petrified. It will be a massive shock to the system to him and he will be monitored around the clock."

The insider went on to explain the process Brand will have gone through as ahead of his first night spend behind bars. They said: "All prisoners have to strip off in reception which is humiliating and a real wake-up call.

"He will be in prison-issue clothes and given a first-night pack, which will be a world away from what he is used to. All his cockiness will disappear as he takes in his new surroundings.

"But he will be relatively safe and watched around the clock by officers and banged up away from other inmates to start with."

The source added Brand will be held in a London prison ahead of his sentencing and he's then likely to be transferred to a specialist unit for sex offenders.

They said: "Brand will be in London until and after his sentencing but is then likely to be moved somewhere that specialises in sex offenders where he is more out of harm's way."

After the jury returned their verdict on Thursday, judge Mr Justice Bennathan told Brand to "sit down" and prepare for a potentially lengthy custodial sentence.

He told the shamed star: "Given the verdict on count six at least, obviously a custodial sentence of some length will result ... You've been convicted of a number of offences including rape. The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term.

"My current view is that I therefore have to remand you into custody."

A sentencing hearing will follow on Monday (09.11.26).

Brand had been accused of seven offences over 10 years from 1999 to 2009, and had denied all allegations. He was found guilty of a count of sexual assault, relating to a party in a Soho bar in 2004, where he was accused of grabbing a woman's breasts.

Brand was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a complainant at Choice FM in the summer of 2004 or 2005. The guilty count of rape related to Brand anally raping the complainant at his Hampstead home between the winter and spring of 2009, having previously met her at his Hammersmith Apollo gig.

Brand was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a complainant while she was working on a Channel 4 project, when he was accused of putting his head in her lap with his mouth and nose in her "vaginal area".
