NEW YORK — Jon Stewart will continue his Monday-night hosting duties at “The Daily Show” through 2028, Comedy Central and the newly formed Skydance Television said Monday.

The two-year contract renewal takes the show through the next presidential election and keeps Stewart on as executive producer, tandem roles he has held since returning to the nightly news sendup in early 2024. Stewart’s longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon, and showrunner Jen Flanz are executive-producing alongside him, and that arrangement remains in place as well.

Tuesdays through Thursdays will still see rotating hosts Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic, with Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt as correspondents, Skydance said in a statement.

Stewart hosted the program full time from January 1999 through August 2015 after taking over from Craig Kilborn, winning a cool 19 Emmy Awards along the way.

From 2015 to 2022, Trevor Noah helmed the news desk during a run that included donning a hoodie and anchoring from his apartment amid the COVID-19 pandemic. After Noah announced his departure, a number of guest hosts cycled through before the show settled on its current roster of rotating cast anchors.

Stewart initially agreed to return part time in 2024 to see the election cycle through. He then renewed through the end of 2025, and again in 2026. Under Stewart’s stewardship, ratings have skyrocketed, and more Emmys have streamed in. Despite its success, its fate seemed a tad unclear in the wake of CBS’s cancelation of “Late Night With Stephen Colbert” as Paramount, parent to both the network and Comedy Central, merged with Skydance. Apparently Stewart needn’t have worried.

“Jon Stewart is a generational talent, and ‘The Daily Show’ continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” Skydance TV’s newly minted co-chair and chief content officer George Cheeks said in a statement. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team.”
