Benny Blanco says Selena Gomez reminds him of his mom.

The 38-year-old producer - whose real name is Benjamin Levin - insisted he and the Only Murders in the Building actress "live a very normal life" because his wife is uncomfortable being the centre of attention and has a similar shyness to his beloved mother.

He told the Sunday Times magazine: "My wife is very quiet and an observer. If we're at a big party, neither my wife nor my mother wants to be the centre of attention, which is funny because my wife is the centre of attention in every room she goes in. But they're both a little shy."

Benny and Selena love to play Scrabble together.

Asked who is better at the word game, he said: "I think you're supposed to say your wife is better than you at everything."

The couple have collaborated on music a number of times and Benny thinks it is "the best" to work with his wife.

He gushed: "She's the best person in the world. I get to work with her and then I get to kiss her at the end of the night. That's the best.

"We're both very patient people. Neither one of us gets angry very often."

The couple married in September last year, with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Paris Hilton, Martin Short and Steve Martin among the guests, and one of the highlights of the wedding for Benny came at 1am when he and Selena, 34, caught a quiet moment together.

He recalled: "Mark Ronson was DJing. The best DJ set ever. I pull her aside for a second and we have this moment, sitting there laughing and looking at everyone.

"I loved seeing my mum dancing with Taylor Swift, and then SZA sitting with my cousin talking about make-up. Everyone's just a person."

Selena gave a speech at the recent wedding of Taylor and Travis Kelce, but Benny is sworn to secrecy about the high-profile nuptials.

He laughed: "The last two weddings I went to were my friend Dave's and then Taylor's. It's funny, our life is very like that...

"Every day I'm pinching myself this is my actual life."
