Andrew Garfield doubts whether artificial intelligence can replicate "the soul of humanity".

The 43-year-old actor plays Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, in Luca Guadagnino's new comedy-drama film Artificial, and Andrew has shared his own thoughts about the potential impact of artificial intelligence.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrew explained: "The toothpaste is definitely out of the tube, but that doesn't mean we've rendered ourselves obsolete.

"I have a lot of hope. I have a lot of hope that humanity will prevail and that the soul of humanity cannot be replicated and artificialised.

"Artificial intelligence, the name is on the tin. It's artificial. It's not soul intelligence. It's not human intelligence. That's my perspective, and God knows I've been wrong before, but I believe deeply in human beings.

"I believe deeply in the unreplicable nature of the human soul and the human spirit. I want to tell stories that speak to that, and I want to stay connected to that.

"Listen, new tools are great, but for me, it's not going to replace the experience of going to the movie theatre or the theatre or seeing some live music."

Earlier this month, meanwhile, Andrew expressed hope that billionaires will get "scared s***less" by The Uprising.

The actor takes the lead as folk hero Ploughman in Paul Greengrass' period drama, which is inspired by England's 1381 Peasants' Revolt, and Andrew hopes that the movie will spread fear among the super rich.

Speaking about his hopes for the movie, Andrew shared: "Well, first, I hope they come and see it, for first thing. But secondly, I hope it's galvanising.

"I hope there's some awakening that people feel, that they feel that their own, that we all feel like our own struggles are being reflected in the struggles of these characters from a distant time and place, and that it could be directive.

"And I hope that if any billionaires watch it, they're scared s***less."
