DETROIT — Royal Oak-born actor and cult movie icon Bruce Campbell said during an appearance on "The Adam Carolla Show" this week that he has five years to live.

Campbell announced in March that he has been diagnosed with a "treatable" but not "curable" form of cancer. He has not disclosed the type of cancer with which he has been diagnosed.

"The current thing is a five-year deal," Campbell told Carolla during the episode, which was posted Thursday.

"So the prognosis is you have five years to live?" Carolla asked Campbell.

"Give or take," Campbell said.

"I've decided, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it," the "Evil Dead" actor said of his diagnosis. "You can go down a massive rabbit hole. The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have what you have. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole.

"It's a whack-a-mole life, literally," Campbell said of living with cancer. "Cancer compromises s--- inside your body. So then you go, 'deal with that,' so then you deal with that. And then you sort of wait for it to then compromise something else. Meanwhile, you're trying to put out the whole fire."

Campbell, 68, was on Carolla's show to talk about his latest movie, "Ernie & Emma," which he brought to Detroit's Redford Theatre in June. It's a dramedy about a man who takes a road trip with his wife's ashes following her death.

He's bringing the film on an 18-date tour of Alamo Drafthouse locations that kicks off Sept. 4 in Los Angeles and wraps up Nov. 14 in Littleton, Colorado.

Campbell told The Detroit News in May that he's doing his best to stay steady amid his health diagnosis.

"I'm managing," he said. "That's the word I'm gonna use. I'm managing my situation, and I'm gonna live my life as close to what is normal as I can for as long as I can. It's just that simple."
