Sabrina Carpenter feels "lucky" to have experienced Dolly Parton's "singular magic".

The 27-year-old singer has penned a touching tribute to the country music legend - who died following a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday (25.08.26) at the age of 80 - and reflected on spending time with an "angel walking the earth" when they worked together last year on a collaborative rendition of Sabrina's 2024 hit Please Please Please.

Sabrina wrote on Instagram: "oh dolly [broken heart emoji] the only thing i could say after we first met was "she really is an angel walking the earth" and "we look like we could be sisters!"

"i will cherish our laughter and conversations and i will keep your wisdom, your playful outlook on life, and perfect sense of humor in my pocket for the rainy days. there will never be another you and how lucky are we all to have experienced your singular magic as well as your once in a lifetime voice, songs, and heart.

"your light will be something the world will search forever to find again [butterfly emojis] i will always love you (sic)"

Dolly previously revealed she had certain ground rules before agreeing to the collaboration with Sabrina.

She told Knox News: "I told her, I said, 'Now, I don't cuss. I don't make fun of Jesus. I don't talk bad about God, and I don't say dirty words on camera, but known to if I get mad enough.' "

As a result, Sabrina removed the original "m***********" from the chorus.

Meanwhile, Shania Twain paid tribute to her "mentor" and "hero".

Sharing a clip from a 2003 appearace on The Oprah Winfrey Show in which she and the Jolene hitmaker teamed up for a rendition of Dolly's 1971 song Coat of Many Colors, Shania wrote in the accompanying Instagram caption: "Dolly was pure light sent from heaven. My mentor is gone. My songwriting teacher and hero of grace and humility.

"There is a hole in my heart but the joy of just the thought of her smile will continue to fill me with inspiration for as long as I live. I will cherish this moment performing Coat Of Many Colors with Dolly forever. Goodbye Dolly. Rest in peace, beautiful angel."

Dolly's death was announced in a video message from her nephew, Bryan Seaver, and her representatives later confirmed she had been battling cancer.

Her representatives said in a statement: "Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.

"Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly's unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact.

"After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones."
