Greta Lee became the "adult version" of herself in New York City.

The 43-year-old actress lived in the Big Apple for nearly two decades and she admits that New York has shaped her personality.

Speaking to Interview magazine, Greta explained: "I became the adult version of me in New York. I finished college in Illinois, and then I moved to New York when I was 21.

"I was boots on the ground, trying to be whatever it was, an artist, an actor, something. That was 2001, so I spent almost 20 years there doing all sorts of things."

Now, though, New York feels a lot less familiar to Greta whenever she returns to the city.

The actress said: "Now my relationship with New York is a little different, and when I'm there, maybe I'm trying to reconnect to this old New York that doesn't exist anymore."

Greta has also admitted to feeling like an outside in the film industry.

She explained: "I've always felt kind of weird in this business, I don't fit.

"I think being Korean and being a woman, sometimes there's not an immediate blueprint that makes sense. And everything I've done, everything that's happened, nothing has turned out the way that I thought, for better and for worse."

Earlier this year, Greta argued that independent movies are "essential".

The actress has starred in a host of big-budget productions in recent years, including Toy Story 5, A House of Dynamite, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - but Greta remains passionate about independent, low-budget films, too.

The actress - whose latest movie project is Late Fame, an independent film helmed by critic-turned-director Kent Jones - told The Hollywood Reporter: "I think it's so essential. I really do.

"I really believe in not only this movie specifically, but movies like this. I am actively campaigning for us to keep making and supporting movies like this of the size, of this scope.

"So much has been said in a much more articulate way about the importance of the theatre-going experience, but we are in a very tricky spot right now. I would be so devastated to find ourselves in a situation where there's not a movie like this that one could go enjoy."
