Howard Stern has received a public show of support linked to his love for animals from his wife Beth Stern after criticism over reported job cuts on his long-running SiriusXM radio show.

The animal welfare campaigner describing the broadcaster as her "best friend" and the "biggest supporter" of her life's work after shock jock Howard, 72, has faced scrutiny in recent weeks following reports more than a dozen members of staff working on The Howard Stern Show were laid off as part of changes accompanying a reduced broadcast schedule.

The veteran broadcaster, whose career has spanned more than four decades and transformed American talk radio through his outspoken interviewing style, has not publicly commented on the reported redundancies.

The developments come only months after Howard signed a new three-year agreement to remain with SiriusXM until 2028, while listeners have also reacted to the programme's move from multiple weekly broadcasts to a single three-hour live show each week.

Despite the criticism, Beth, 54, has offered a glowing tribute to her husband during an interview with Bella magazine, highlighting both their marriage and their shared commitment to animal rescue through Bianca's Furry Friends and North Shore Animal League America.

Speaking to Bella magazine, Beth said: "My relationship with my husband - he makes everything in my life good. He's my best friend, my rescue partner, and the biggest supporter of my life's mission to save animals."

She added: "In fact, I told him just this morning that I still get butterflies every time I see him."

Beth appeared on the cover of the magazine's July/August edition, posing in a series of fashion photographs while discussing her charitable work and marriage.

The interview comes as she prepares to attend Bella magazine's annual Cards for a Cure fundraiser in Westhampton Beach, which supports the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Her public remarks also coincide with continuing fallout from changes to Howard's radio programme. Sources told The U.S. Sun several employees affected by the reported layoffs were seeking improved severance packages after initially being offered one week of pay for every year of service.

According to the report, some staff members had anticipated the reductions following significant changes to the programme's production schedule, while others were caught by surprise.

For much of its run, The Howard Stern Show aired five live broadcasts each week, with Howard joined by longtime co-host Robin Quivers.

Under the current arrangement, the programme has been reduced to one three-hour live broadcast each week and is presently on its annual summer break before returning in September.

The reported staffing changes have prompted criticism from some subscribers, with listeners posting online that they planned to cancel their SiriusXM subscriptions following the reduction in original programming.

Howard has not publicly addressed either the reported layoffs or the reaction from listeners.

He remains one of the most influential figures in American broadcasting, having built a career through syndicated radio before moving exclusively to SiriusXM in 2006.
