NEW YORK — The “Today” show is implementing “stricter security protocols” in the days since a man was arrested for sneaking into the NBC studio, where he swung at Craig Melvin and used racial slurs against the beloved co-anchor.

Nearly a week after a security guard was fired for the breach, Variety reports that “Your Team at ‘Today'” sent an email Wednesday to PR firms detailing “an important update regarding studio access for ‘Today’ interviews.”

“In light of the recent events last week, we are implementing stricter security protocols effective immediately,” continued the notice.

From here on out, each guest is afforded “a maximum of two (2) people in the studio,” including those accompanying that individual, be it publicists, stylists, “or any other support personnel,” no exceptions. If guests must bring additional personnel though, they’re “more than welcome to wait in the green room.”

“We’ll defer to you on who those two individuals should be,” said the email. “We understand this is a change from how we’ve operated in the past, and we appreciate your flexibility as we implement these new measures.”

Those with questions or concerns were urged to reach out so as to avoid “confusion or issues the morning of an interview,” with the show insisting, “We’re happy to talk through anything ahead of time.”

Per authorities, Andrew Truelove initially bypassed security in an effort to target Al Roker, though it was 47-year-old Melvin he ultimately confronted. Truelove, 41, allegedly swung at Melvin and used the N-word against him.

Truelove has been charged with burglary and menacing, both as hate crimes, as well as criminal trespass and harassment.

Melvin and Roker, 71, each went on the air within minutes of the incident, and have since thanked those who checked in, and assured everyone they were holding up “just fine.”
