FORT WORTH, Texas — “Dutton Ranch” wraps up its first season this week.

The Paramount+ series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) after “Yellowstone” as the couple move to the fictional South Texas town of Rio Paloma. Their adopted son Carter (Finn Little) is also along for the ride.

“Dutton Ranch” premiered on May 15 and will finish its season, which filmed all around North Texas, on Friday, July 3.

The finale is titled “El Padrino,” which translates to “The Godfather,” and if the episode promo is any indication, Beth and Rip are in for a major battle.

Heading into the season finale, here’s a recap for “Dutton Ranch” fans on what’s happened to their favorite characters and what’s to come.

What’s happened on ‘Dutton Ranch’ this season?

[Editor’s note: Spoilers for “Dutton Ranch” below.]

Beth and Rip are torn both personally and professionally heading into the season finale.

In the closing moments of last week’s episode, the couple are told by Austin (Sterlin English) that the 10-Petal Ranch has an illegal cattle operation in Mexico that steals livestock from neighboring ranches and funnels them to Rio Paloma. That’s how the 10-Petal has weathered the ups and downs of the cattle industry in the past.

This is tumultuous for Beth and Rip, since they both began working for the 10-Petal about halfway through the season. Beth even paid 10-Petal owner Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) a visit in the hospital in the same episode.

On the personal side, Beth and Rip both attempt to connect with Carter in last week’s episode after his drunken acts in Episode 7. Beth tells Carter that if he wants to be a cowboy he needs to get out and work, so he joins Rip for a day at the 10-Petal.

Carter’s hangover proves to be too much for the young’un, as he forgets to lock a gate that opens and scatters a group of cattle. He also takes a tumble off his horse, sending him pissed off and done for the day.

Rip attempts to talk with Carter about the situation and his future, but it backfires and sends Carter running for his truck keys. Beth catches him before he drives off and tells him that the ranch will always be his home. Carter drives off into the sunset and is last seen trying to get a job with the Rio Paloma Sheriff’s Office to no avail.

Over on the 10-Petal, Beulah and Everett (Ed Harris) skedaddle out of the hospital after her heart surgery. They aren’t seen again, but likely went back to the ranch for some R&R.

Finally, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) makes a call to his father in the closing minutes and tells him “Necesito tu ayuda,” which translates to, “I need your help.”

What will happen in the ‘Dutton Ranch’ finale?

In a 30-second promo released for the finale, the guns are loaded and ready for action.

It appears that Beth and Rip confront Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) with a punch to the face about the 10-Petal’s illegal operation. Joaquin’s father, played by Damián Alcázar, talks to Beulah, and she later converses with Beth and Rip about something.

Several men with guns are seen descending upon Dutton Ranch as Rip and crew, including Everett, get ready for battle. Gunfire is exchanged as the promo comes to a close.

Whatever happens in the finale, will likely affect Rio Paloma for some time. The fallout will sure to be explored in the second season, which was officially announced last week.
