NEW YORK — The cause of death for Bobby J. Brown, famous for his role as Officer Bobby Brown in the hit HBO series, “The Wire,” has been revealed some four months after the actor died in a barn fire in Maryland.

Brown died at the age of 62 years old of “diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation,” according to an autopsy and toxicology report obtained by Us Weekly. The chief medical examiner noted that Brown “had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to death” and carbon monoxide was found at levels as high as 71% in his blood.

No drugs were found in his system and his manner of death was determined to be an accident, the report said.

Brown was attempting to jump-start a vehicle in his family barn in Chaptico when a fire broke out the night of Feb. 24. He called out for someone to bring a fire extinguisher, but the time one arrived, the structure was already entirely engulfed in flames.

His wife, Arlene, reportedly suffered severe burns while trying to save him.

Brown also suffered “fourth-degree burns,” and he had “a few brown hairs on the scalp, but the vast majority were singed off,” the report said, per US Weekly. The medical examiner added that skin was also “absent from the left chest, a portion of the left arm and portions of the lower extremities.”

In wake of the tragedy, Brown’s daughter, Reina, opened about up how her family was struggling with their grief.

“Everybody is still trying to process it,” she said at the time. “It’s been difficult for all of us.”

She added: “My dad was an amazing human being. He was super awesome. He was a pillar in the community, and he’s going to be missed by a lot of people.”
