Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley 'out-rednecked' each other over snake invader
Published in Entertainment News
Miranda Lambert and Ella Langley tried to "out-redneck" each other by killing a snake.
The two country stars connected through mutual friends and began writing together, and had a particularly memorable session which ended with Miranda, 42, wielding a shotgun.
Speaking with country icon Reba McEntire during a Three Generations conversation for ELLE magazine, Ella said: "We were in the middle of a write and I saw a snake. I tried to get up and catch it. And Miranda walked outside with a shotgun."
Miranda clarified: "We were at the farm, y'all. We were trying to out-redneck each other. That's what we were doing."
Fortunately for the snake, Ella "scared" it away before her pal could shoot.
She said: "The snake did not get shot at. I scared it off and she was mad at me for that. She's like, 'Dang it, I was right here.'
"She didn't tell me she was going to get the gun. She just kind of walked out."
Miranda laughed and said: "Reba, don't you want to come out and write with us?
"We won't do snakes and shotguns if you come by with us. We'll keep it low-key."
The 71-year-old star asked: "Ice tea?"
Miranda replied: "Something in it, but yeah."
Reba laughed as she said: "A little something-something in there. Okay."
Ella, 27, also revealed another animal-themed event that had proven to be a highlight during her writing sessions with the If I Was a Cowboy singer, which was sparked by songwriter Scotch Taylor telling her Miranda had a pet kangaroo.
Ella said: "I was 18 when he told me, I didn't ask until I was 25, but I wanted to the whole time. I was afraid to ask her, I didn't know if it was inappropriate or weird...
"We wrote one song. I figured we were friends enough.
"After we got done we were all, you know, getting up, getting a snack. And I was like, 'Miranda, did you have a kangaroo?' And she was like, 'I did and then it had a baby, and that was my baby, and I loved it.' "
The conversation led to the pair writing their song Choosin' Texas.
Ella said: "And then you talked about how you went dirt road riding and got pulled over."
Miranda laughed: "I had five dogs in the backseat and a kangaroo in the front. Back home in Oklahoma you can do that stuff."
Ella continued: She said the cop completely forgot what she pulled her over for when she saw the kangaroo, and Miranda went, 'and of course I had Texas plates on' and I said, 'The cop probably thought, "Well, she's from Texas, I can tell." '
"And just from that phrase..."
