Jack White announces new album, 'Frozen Charlotte,' shares new single

DETROIT — The unofficial has been made official, as Jack White's team announced on Wednesday the Detroit rocker's new album, "Frozen Charlotte," will be released July 10.
A new single, "Dollar Bill," was also released Wednesday and is currently streaming on all platforms.
The announcement follows an unofficial trickle-out that started when White's Third Man Records shared a listing for "Frozen Charlotte" on Tuesday.
As Stereogum points out, that listing followed some shenanigans with a pair of videos released to Third Man's YouTube page this week.
In a video released Monday as part of the Third Man Release Lab series, the feed glitches out at about the 21:30 mark and is interrupted by a a snippet of "Dollar Bill."
A second video, released Tuesday, begins to go haywire around the 24:25 mark, at which point it cuts to a black-and-white feed of a man in a skull mask dancing behind an office desk. The skull-masked man, who has a "Frozen Charlatan" name plate on his desk, holds up a vinyl-sized sign labeled "NEW ALBUM" and then tosses it at the camera, at which point the new album cover is shown, before the feed returns to regularly scheduled programming.
"Frozen Charlotte" is White's seventh studio album. It will be available on black vinyl, as well as a limited-edition "Zug Island Blue" as the Third Man Records exclusive vinyl, a "Chrome" edition through the Third Man web store and at live shows, and a limited-edition "Ice Blue" edition at independent record stores, according to a release. It will also be available on CD and cassette.
The 13-track set was recorded at the Third Man Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, with White's bandmates Patrick Keeler (drums), Dominic Davis (bass) and Bobby Emmett (keys), following the rocker's last tour. "Instead of resting on a 'job well done,' they went straight to work in the studio and laid down what became 'Frozen Charlotte,'" the album description on Third Man's website reads.
"Frozen Charlotte" follows "No Name," which was unveiled in a similarly clandestine fashion; on July 19, 2024, the album was handed out for free in an unmarked white sleeve to anyone who made a purchase at White's Third Man store in Detroit.
The new album was preceded by the April release of "G.O.D. And the Broken Ribs" and "Derecho Demonico." The two singles were played by White when he appeared on "SNL" on April 4, alongside host Jack Black.
White expounded on the meaning of "Frozen Charlotte" in a recent Instagram post.
"A 'frozen Charlotte' is a penny doll toy from victorian times, they were ceramic but could float or have a dress put over, recalling an old folk song about a girl who froze to death from not dressing properly in the winter," he wrote.
White is currently on tour in Europe and played Stockholm on Tuesday.
