Chappell Roan feels "privileged" to be able to delete social media from her phone.

The 28-year-old pop star, who has been vocal about her own boundaries as she tries to navigate fame, has opened up on her decision to step back from platforms like Instagram, TikTok and X when things get too much.

Chappell, who currently "doesn't have social media" on her phone, told the P+G and iHeartRadio's Elton John Impact Awards podcast: "I'm in a very privileged position where I can be like, 'I'm not gonna be on this and I'll be fine.'

"But not everyone is like that."

Chappell admitted it can be "very disheartening sometimes to really go into the comment section".

She added: "I just delete it when it becomes too much and keep it moving.

"Because at the end of the day, no matter what anyone says about me online or in person, it's not gonna stop people like Elton [John] and I [from] donating money, donating time, writing about things that matter to us."

The Pink Pony Club hitmaker acknowledged that, as an artist, there can be a struggle in separating "social media and your job and being a good person".

Meanwhile, for every difficult moment online, there are plenty of people who have her back, which makes it tough to balance, particularly when social media also plays a vital role in many stars' careers.

She explained: "It's such a difficult world to navigate that personally, if I just delete it and keep it moving, I kind of make it out of that hurricane.

"But that's hard for a lot of artists because, if you really rely on social media to fuel your momentum, that can be really disheartening and it can feel very hopeless."

In April 2025, Chappell explained she had deleted TikTok and Instagram because of her comment section.

She told the Los Culturistas podcast: "If I want to protect my creative psyche, because I'm writing right now, I have to build a force field around it.

"If I want to for sure have a bad day... I read the comments and I just have to remind myself, 'If you open these, you're not going to feel good.'

"It just hurts my feelings."
