'This is Us' star Chrissy Metz sets Broadway debut with '& Juliet'

NEW YORK — “This is Us” star Chrissy Metz is gearing up for her Broadway debut in the jukebox musical “& Juliet.”
The Emmy nominee, 45, will take over the role of Angélique — currently played by Jeannette Bayardelle — when she hits the stage at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on June 18, per a news release.
Metz’s limited engagement will end Sept. 13.
The Tony-nominated reinterpretation of “Romeo & Juliet” explores Juliet’s (Gianna Harris) story after Romeo, had she not taken her own life at the end of the Shakespearean staple, featuring songs from Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion, Kesha, NSYNC and more.
“I’m so excited to be making my Broadway debut, and to do it in a show that is this joyful feels like an absolute dream come true,” Metz told Variety. “I think some of the hardest working, most creative people work in live theater and well, Broadway scares me to bits, which is why I have always wanted to do it! Pray for me!”
Metz’s Broadway turn comes nearly a decade after she first acted on the New York stage in 2017, when she took place in a benefit reading of Neil LaBute’s “Fat Pig.”
Metz broke out as Kate Pearson in NBC’s “This is Us,” on which she starred alongside Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Milo Ventimiglia and Justin Hartley for all six seasons from 2016 to 2022.
The production of “& Juliet” has earned nine Tony nominations, including for best musical, since it opened in November 2022. It’s also marked the Broadway debut of Olympic gold medalist, gymnast Laurie Hernandez, who joined the cast in March.
