The widow of “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman had a speech prepared if her late husband posthumously won an Academy Award for his performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated Boseman for a best actor Oscar at the 93rd Academy Awards, which took place eight months after the 43-year-old actor died from colon cancer. Anthony Hopkins won the prize for his performance in “The Father.” He was at his home in Wales when his win was announced.

Had Bozeman won at that April 25, 2021, ceremony in Los Angeles, a live audience would’ve heard Simone Ledward Boseman showering her late husband’s family with praise and thanking God. She recently shared her notes with the Hollywood Reporter after searching for the text in her computer.

“Oh! It says: ‘I will never stop thanking God for you,'” she read. “‘Thank you to the most high God.'”

Boseman died, with his wife and family by his side, on Aug. 28, 2020, following a four-year illness, according to his publicist.

“Thank you, Carolyn and Leroy Boseman (Chadwick’s parents), and your mothers, and your mothers’ mothers,” his widow’s acceptance speech read.

She also had high praise for the role that made him an Academy Award nominee.

“What purity. What honesty. What pain. What a role. What work. What beautiful, intricate humanity. What courage, bravery, fearlessness, honesty, commitment, humanity, strength,” her speech continued. “A spirit that refused to surrender to despair. What an actor. What an artist. What a cast. What a team. What a vision. Glory be to the most high God. Long live the King.”

While Boseman and his “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” co-star and fellow nominee Viola Davis weren’t awarded for their work, the Academy recognized the film for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Achievement in Costume Design.
