Trailer: Murdoch family docuseries teases juicy real-life 'Succession' saga

NEW YORK — The newly dropped trailer for the upcoming Netflix docuseries on the Murdoch family dangles a narrative juicier than that of its fictional counterpart, HBO’s hit series “Succession.”
Rupert Murdoch was “raising successors not children” as he pitted his progeny against one another, creating his own homegrown “‘Hunger Games,’ Murdoch-style,” according to media experts, journalists and others whose observations are peppered throughout the two-minute tease.
“Dynasty: The Murdochs” takes viewers behind the scenes as it follows the real-life succession saga that tore the media mogul’s family apart and culminated in a headline-grabbing settlement between the 94-year-old patriarch and three of his four children last fall.
What ostensibly sets this docuseries apart from the numerous other treatments of Murdoch and his sprawling media empire is that “Dynasty” pulls from thousands of pages of private communications, including emails, text messages and other documents, that the others did not.
The series also features interviews with former Murdoch employees, as well as reporters who covered the story for outlets like The New York Times and The Atlantic.
“Dynasty” is set to be released on March 13, two days after the scion’s 95th birthday.
The four-part series is produced by Story Syndicate, which brought the world the six-part “Harry & Meghan” Netflix project. It’s directed by Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning documentarian Liz Garbus, with Sara Enright co-directing the final episode.
