Cardi B reportedly flipped out on 'SNL' set over Nicki Minaj joke

NEW YORK — Cardi B allegedly freaked out on the set of “Saturday Night Live” last month after overhearing a joke about Nicki Minaj, according to a report published Wednesday.
The Bronx native, whose legal name is Belcalis Almanzar, was the musical guest for the 1,000th episode of “SNL” on Jan. 31.
But during dress rehearsals, Cardi overheard a “Weekend Update” joke about Minaj and her affiliation with Donald Trump and began destroying equipment on the set, TMZ reported.
Cardi allegedly threatened to leave, threw her phone at a monitor and punched a producer’s screen repeatedly in a back room, sources told the outlet.
The joke did not mention Cardi, according to TMZ, but it was written out of the script anyway. Cardi performed as planned that night and also appeared in a sketch with the episode’s host, Alexander Skarsgard.
Cardi and Minaj, who also grew up in New York, have a longstanding personal and professional beef. The two rappers famously fought at New York Fashion Week in 2018, with Cardi tossing a high heel in Minaj’s direction and walking away with a bruise on her face.
More recently, the duo reignited their arguments on social media following the release of Cardi’s newest album, “Am I the Drama?” In that exchange, Cardi was particularly upset after Minaj took a shot at her daughter, Kulture.
Minaj has also drawn headlines in recent months for cozying up to Trump, something Trevor Noah joked about with no issue at the Grammys.
