Piers Morgan gets new hip after femur snaps in restaurant fall
Published in Entertainment News
Piers Morgan is recovering in a London hospital after he tripped and fell in a hotel restaurant and broke his femur so badly that he needed a hip replacement.
“Tripped on a small step,” wrote the 60-year-old commentator in a faux listicle he posted to Instagram on Sunday with a hospital-bed selfie. “Fell like a sack of spuds.”
He fractured the neck of his femur, a break so close to the hip that doctors’ only recourse was to swap it out for a new one, Morgan explained, illustrating with his own X-ray. A six-week stint on crutches awaits him, the former CNN host said, followed by a 12-week moratorium on long-haul flying.
“New Year off to a cracking start!” Morgan quipped in conclusion, joking, “I blame Donald Trump.”
Trump crowned him winner of “The Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008, and the two were friendly for decades, though not without controversy. Trump granted Morgan his first international television interview after winning a first presidential term. But tensions flared especially when the former “Good Morning Britain” co-host condemned Trump’s actions related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attempt to overthrow the U.S. presidential election.
Morgan’s last social media post before his hospital selfie clapped back at Trump’s attempts to seize Greenland.
“Britain should repurchase America,” Morgan posted on X. “After all, it was ours once, and it would enhance our North Atlantic security. If you don’t sell it to us, President Trump, we’re going to impose tariffs on the U.S. and any country who supports you in resisting this very good deal. Fair?”
On Monday the “Piers Morgan Uncensored” host continued amusing himself on social media, posting a photo of a newspaper article about his injury that sprawled across the top two-thirds of a broadsheet page. On a television in the background were two news anchors in front of a White House backdrop.
“I think you guys are missing the really big news today,” the journalist joked.
