Timberwolves reportedly fill power forward spot by adding Jonathan Kuminga on two-year, $12 million deal

MINNEAPOLIS — The MinnesotaTimberwolves filled a hole in their lineup by agreeing to a contract with free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga.
After losing Julius Randle in a trade with Brooklyn and Naz Reid in a trade with Charlotte, the Wolves needed someone at power forward. Kuminga, 23, who played last season for both Golden State and Atlanta, agreed to a two-year, $12.4 million contract that includes a player option for the second season, according to ESPN.
A 6-7 native of Congo, Kuminga was a prep star before spending a year in the G League from 2020-21. He was the seventh overall pick by the Warriors in the 2021 NBA draft and spent four full seasons with Golden State. He won an NBA title in his rookie season.
Kuminga was traded to the Hawks on Feb. 5 along with Buddy Hield for Kristaps Porzingis.
In 294 games, he has averaged 12.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. His best season came with Golden State in 2023-24, when he averaged 16.1 points.
His last contract was a two-year, $48.5 million deal, but the Hawks declined the team option for next season.
