'WHALEFALL'

Rated PG-13 for peril, violent content, bloody images, some strong language, and thematic content.

What it’s about: A young man, grieving his father, sets out for a dive to find some of his remains, and is swallowed by a sperm whale. He has an hour of oxygen to escape.

The kid attractor factor: This is a gnarly survival thriller — not much appeal for kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: We become who we are in spite of, and because of, our parents. We are their remains.

Violence: Some perilous sequences of danger, bloody injuries and images, animal violence.

Language: Some swearing.

Sex: None

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: Intense scary situations and bloody imagery make this too intense for kids. OK for teens.

'SENSE AND SENSIBILITY'

Rated PG for some thematic elements, partial nudity and brief violence.

What it’s about: This adaptation of Jane Austen's debut novel follows the Dashwood sisters as they try to secure a marriage match in order to ensure their family's security.

The kid attractor factor: This is a swooning period romance — maybe some appeal for teens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: It's better to speak your heart than suffer the consequences of miscommunication. Safety and security outweighs passion and excitement in matters of marriage.

Violence: A duel with pistols.

Language: None

Sex: Allusions to sex but nothing explicit.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: A lovely romance to delight yearners of any age.
