Auto review: 2026 Volvo XC90 continues to win the Luxury category

Long-time Grasso’s Garage readers know Volvo reigns supreme in the luxury category, and this week, the proof is in the pudding.

With an Aurora Silver exterior, great sight lines and fantastic comfort, the 2026 Volvo XC90 T8 AWD PHEV Ultra delivers a statement as it enters our garage.

The XC90 is powered by the illustrious 2.0L Turbo charged engine with electric motor, producing a combined 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission was smooth as could be.

While riding on 21-inch diamond-cut wheels, the XC90 was impressively smooth and comfortable for all passengers. The iPad style 11.2-inch center display was easy to use, typical of all Volvo products. The placement of the Volvo infotainment system was one of our favorite touches, as it did not protrude above the dash and impair your view while still sitting conveniently and easy to use.

Packed with a 48 month / 50,000 mile warranty and 96 month / 100,000 mile hybrid powertrain warranty, the XC90 also includes factory scheduled maintenance service for 24 month / 20,000 miles. Complimentary roadside assistance and towing are also included.

As a Volvo owner since the 2018 XC60 Momentum and V60 Inscription Wagon, I find view other vehicles more fun to drive, safer on the road or as comfortable in my full-framed opinion. I have tested over 400 vehicles, and the brand stands out on its own.

Even though the 2026 XC90 flagship is in another league of the Luxury segment, it is a true example for manufacturers to continue to chase. For consumers it’s a huge win, as it provides luxury, comfort, power, style and size. What more could any consumer want or need?
