What can we do about our son who was led astray by a secular college?

Q: I am desperate for my son who grew up in a solid Christian home and stayed active in church until he went to college. Now he has informed my husband and I that he no longer believes in his commitment to Christ that he made as a teenager. He says that his study of religion and philosophy in college has opened his eyes to truth and that he’s somewhere in between an atheist and agnostic because his professor convinced him that God cannot be proven and that people must have faith in themselves. Had we known such a curriculum would be taught, we’d have never paid for him to have this university experience. We’ve talked until we can’t talk anymore; we just cry. What else can we do? – T.A.

A: Some people give up the pursuit of God in frustration, calling themselves “atheists” or “agnostics,” professing to be irreligious. Many evidences and arguments suggest God’s existence, yet the plain truth is that God cannot be proved by intellectual arguments, nor does God expect us to prove Him. He is. He has always been. He is the great “I Am.” Yet the very people who claim that God is not are often those who believe in something of their own imagination, with no substance at all.

Man has naturally and universally a capacity for religion – and not only a capacity, for the vast majority of the human race practices or professes some form of religion. A false religion is like the imitation of high fashion. The very presence of counterfeits proves the existence of the real. There would be no imitations without a genuine product.

How does anyone know that Almighty God is the one and only God? By His Word and by faith alone. “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1, NKJV).
