'THE CAT IN THE HAT'
Rated PG for action, some peril, mild language and rude humor.
What it’s about: An adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss book in which a chaos-loving cat tries to cheer up two kids with messy fun.
The kid attractor factor: The familiar children's book, the animation and the kid-friendly humor.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Parents are people too — sometimes we need to look past our own upset to see others for who they are and not who we think they are. Also, fun is worth a mess.
Violence: Some perilous situations and scary cartoon monsters.
Language: Mild innuendo and saucy humor.
Sex: None
Drugs: None
Parents’ advisory: Appropriate for kids of all ages.
'WILD HORSE NINE'
Rated R for pervasive language, some strong violence, drug use and sexual references.
What it’s about: Two CIA agents in Chile travel to Easter Island in 1973 and reckon with their life and work.
The kid attractor factor: Not much — this is an adult drama/political thriller/black comedy.
Good lessons/bad lessons: There are still small redemptions to be found.
Violence: Some shooting, references to assassinations, injuries, etc.
Language: Copious swearing throughout.
Sex: References to sex.
Drugs: Onscreen morphine and heroin use, references to heroin use.
Parents’ advisory: Too mature for kids, but fine for teens.
