Joey King has thanked Evan Rachel Wood for being so "nice" about being replaced in Practical Magic 2.

The Kissing Booth star and Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams star as Sandra Bullock's on-screen daughters, Kylie and Antonia, in the recent sequel, replacing Evan and Alexandra Artrip, who had the roles in the 1998 original.

While Evan, 39, has previously expressed her disappointment at not being invited back for Practical Magic 2, Joey admitted she was "super touched" that she had nothing but kind words for her.

Speaking on Armchair Expert, Joey said: "Luckily, she was so [sweet]. She wished me well.

"She said in an interview recently I saw where she was like, 'I wish Joey the best.' And so I reached out to her and...it was so sweet. It was just really nice because everyone was saying things online, and then I was like, 'Well, what if we just chatted?' That was really nice because it's just so noisy when people make their mind up about how to behave when they feel something about someone or a casting choice.

"I love Evan Rachel Wood, and so I was super touched when she said that in her interview that she wished us all well.

"That was really nice because she didn't have to do that. I feel like the noise can become so much noisier than maybe it actually is."

Director Susanne Bier previously insisted that the decision to recast the characters wasn't "personal".

She told Variety: "It was not a personal thing. The kids in the story are right out of college, so it wasn't really a question. We had to recast."

Earlier this summer, Evan admitted she felt "sad" not to be asked back after bonding with the cast "so much as children", and she felt she and Alexandra could have added a lot to the sequel.

She told Entertainment Tonight: "To miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes, it's something that can't be faked.

"I'm sad that doesn't get to exist, especially for the fans."

She also argued that the sequel doesn't "make sense" as an adaptation of author Alice Hoffman's The Book of Magic, which is the final book in the Practical Magic series.

Wood said: "I read the book and it seems like they're not following the book.

"I think in the book it would have made sense to bring me back; I think in the way they're redoing it and approaching it, it didn't make sense."

Evan claimed no one besides Joey had reached out to her and admitted she "offered her services" for the sequel.

She said on Instagram: "Even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting.

"I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters."
