Pop star Miley Cyrus is mourning the loss of her godmother and close family friend Dolly Parton.

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” the 33-year-old “Flowers” singer posted on Instagram Wednesday. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”

Parton died Tuesday at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. A wide range of celebrities rushed to cable TV outlets and social media platforms to express their grief. But few were as close to the “Jolene” singer as Cyrus, whose dad Billy Ray Cyrus struck up a friendship with her when they toured in 1992.

The Queen of Country would then go on to play godmother to Miley’s “Hannah Montana,” and was regarded as the the former Disney star’s honorary “fairy godmother” off-screen, as well.

“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have,” Cyrus said.

TMZ spotted Cyrus walking into a Los Angeles recording studio dressed in black on Wednesday.

She recalled in her Instagram post that one of her last conversations with Parton was about “music and metamorphosis.”

Cyrus punctuated that sentence with a butterfly graphic. She promised to always make her godmother proud.

“My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply,” Cyrus added. “We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”

Billy Cyrus’s 65th birthday coincided with the day Parton died. The “Achey, Breaky Heart” singer’s children and friends recorded a birthday video to celebrate his becoming senior citizen. That included a speech from his pop-singing daughter who thanked him for passing along the genes that gave her a healthy head of hair.
